100 & counting! Resident at Gracewell of Frome celebrates milestone birthday
Gwen Nichols, resident at Gracewell of Frome, celebrated her 100th birthday on October 21st with a special party.
Around 30 family and friends came to visit including grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Daughter Janet Ashford said, “Gwen thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone and the sing-song which everyone joined in.
“Gwen was married to Frank for sixty years, but he sadly passed away in 2000. They had three children, John who lives in Burnham-on-Sea, Robbie in the Isle of Wight and myself, who still lives in Frome.
“In her younger days Gwen was a home help and was well known for riding her little moped bike, travelling around Frome and surrounding villages for her work. Gwen went on to work for Taffy Williams at his grocery shop in Badcox and the fish and chip shop on St Johns Road. Later, she was employed by Butler and Tanner as a proof-reader.
“Her hobbies were gardening and knitting. She loved playing skittles and also enjoyed her weekly visit to bingo. While she is no longer able to do these things, she now thoroughly enjoys singing, games and other activities with the other residents at Gracewell.
“My family and I would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Gracewell for their dedication, care and support in looking after mum and their help in making this occasion a memorable day for all. A lovely time was had by everyone.”
