Elvis Comes To Gracewell of Weymouth

Gracewell  |  October 6, 2017

Residents, friends and family at Gracewell of Weymouth, on Cross Road, enjoyed an Elvis Presley themed evening, with a tribute act performance, a themed quiz and a very special visitor.

Guests were treated to a two hour show from local Elvis Presley tribute act, Andy Kennett, during which everyone, including grandchildren, were up on their feet dancing, singing and enjoying the evening.

The event was made all the more memorable with the appearance of local celebrity, Jumping Jimmy Thunder, who in the 1980s used to perform as Elvis Presley all over Dorset, and in the Golden Eagle in particular. The home was delighted to have Jimmy attend as the special guest, with one resident in particular having Jimmy sing at a family wedding many years ago.
Joining in the fun, residents and guests were up on the dance floor giving their best Elvis Presley impressions, with resident Jack West winning first prize for his impersonation.
Guests also enjoyed a variety of different canapes, as well as glasses of prosecco to celebrate the event.
Esther Shepphard, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Weymouth, said:
“The evening was absolutely fantastic. The residents all loved it and said that the event was a real treat, filled with fun, laughter and dancing. We had people of all ages up dancing and joining in, which was great to see.
“Many of our residents remember going down to watch Jimmy perform at the Golden Eagle when they were younger, so it was a real trip down memory lane for them to see him again. It was definitely a night to remember for a long time to come.

"Special thank you to David Shepphard the old landlord of the Golden Eagle for contacting Jimmy and bringing him along. Both Jimmy and David really enjoyed the event and are looking forward to coming back to see us again soon.”
