Gracewell of Kentford is calling friends, family and the local community to get behind two of their dedicated team members who are representing the home and the local Rotary Club at the Mega Polio Campaign in India next year.

Peter Walton, Home Manager at Gracewell of Kentford and Christine Davies, Home Admissions Advisor, will be joining together, with the support of Gracewell Healthcare and Sunrise Senior Living UK, to assist in giving vital lifesaving polio drops to hundreds of children under the age of five. As part of their venture, they will be raising awareness and helping to eradicate polio for good.

Christine has worked at Gracewell of Kentford for two and a half years, and as part of her role there, she visited the Rotary Club of Newmarket for Business Development. Having seen the amazing work they do, Christine was inspired to join in January 2017 as a member, representing Gracewell.

Peter, who has been with the home for a year and a half, is a registered nurse and has previously travelled the world with the RAF and the army. Having visited the Rotary Club with Christine, he too was motivated to make a difference by joining the campaign.

Despite delivering high-quality care to those who need it most as part of their day job, the pair will find themselves in a very different care setting when they travel to New Delhi and Agra on the 3rd January, 2018. They are calling on the local community to support their humanitarian venture, by donating money to support their trip and enable them to play a part in eradicating polio.

As it stands, India has now been polio free for two years, and if this is achieved for a final consecutive year, the country will be declared as free from polio, and the disease will be officially eradicated from the world.

Christine Davies, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Kentford, said:

“Since visiting the local Rotary Club, I have been inspired by the amazing work being achieved to make such a profound difference on the world we live in. Peter and I feel so very proud and privileged to be able to represent such an amazing charity with the support of Gracewell Healthcare and Sunrise Senior Living UK.

“We would be very grateful if people are able to donate to our humanitarian trip, whether a little or a lot, everything helps and it is a wonderful cause.  When we share our preparation leading up to our departure and our stories on our return, we hope that those who have donated can be excited knowing that they were a part of it.”
