Meet Our Team

It’s the people who make our care home special. Our Home Manager leads a dedicated team of professionals who provide care and support to residents at Gracewell of Edgbaston.

Steven Plant, Home Manager

Steven Plant

I have been a registered nurse for 29 years and have practiced and managed services for 21 years in the NHS and, in the last 12 years, managed Independent hospitals, Nursing Homes and specialist community health support packages in the private and not-for-profit sectors. I have experience in managing both Acute General Nursing and Learning Disability/ Mental services. I have recently managed neuro rehabilitation and senior adults services in nursing home settings. I am still excited and motivated to provide dignified and excellent care to senior residents and privileged to deliver this at Gracewell of Edgbaston.

Nanda Hughes, Deputy Manager

Nanda Hughes

I qualified as a nurse around 30 years ago - when Florence Nightingale was still a nurse! My past experience has been gained in surgical, community and palliative care nursing. I have worked in elderly care for the past 7 years and am very passionate about the care my residents receive as well as the team at Gracewell. I have always lived in the West Bromwich area with my family close by. My other passion is rugby, which I enjoy watching in my spare time.

Judy Cutt, Home Admissions Advisor

Judy

I love my role helping families as part of the family liaison team. It is so rewarding seeing families through difficult times and transforming their lives, seeing them meeting new friends and joining in with the daily activities. This is the most rewarding job I have ever done and I am so pleased to be part of a great team. If you are considering care options for yourself or a loved one please come in for a coffee to see how I may be able to help.

Melissa Gill, Activities Co-ordinator

Melissa Gill

I started my position here in April 2016. I can truthfully say I look forward to coming to work each day and seeing our residents. Some examples of the activities I organise include, walks to the park, seated dance and exercise classes, animal/pet therapy, singers, entertainers and pottery/arts and crafts. I find a large number of our residents enjoy and benefit greatly from the activities we offer. Those who find it difficult to get involved are offered one-to-one time in their rooms. This may consist of reading the newspaper together, chatting about old memories or playing a game, as it is important that there is something for everyone’s tastes, interests and capabilities. I am thankful that my role allows me to see such lovely people smile and enjoy their time spent here. I find my job rewarding and fulfilling to say the least and I love seeing how much daily activities can make a resident's day, change their week and enhance their lives.

Carl Cooper, Head Chef

Carl Cooper

I started out working in care just over 10 years ago as a Kitchen Assistant, I worked my way up to becoming Head Chef within my first 3 years of working there and I worked there for 10 years. It was not just my job I was going to every day, it was like going home to my 2nd family. The experience and opportunities that were given to me has helped me achieve the role I have today. I have only been working for Gracewell for a month and I already have made it feel like a new home with a new family. I live in West Bromwich with my family and, in my spare time, my youngest daughter and I bake for the elderly people who live on our estate, a place that we have known for over 20 years.

Terry Arrowsmith, Maintenance Manager

Terry Arrowsmith

I am new to Gracewell but have come from a 20-year background in school maintenance. I live in Solihull and have three teenage children. Not only am I enjoying my new role, I love to socialise with the residents and hear their life stories and - wow - what some of have done in their lives is amazing. When you come to work and smile you know it’s a nice place. The team here are great.

Christine Renehan, Receptionist

Christine Renehan

I joined Gracewell of Edgbaston in 2015 when the home first opened. I love my position here as I get to know the residents and their families and feel privileged working with a great team!
