Residents and team members at Gracewell of Bath care home are now well over four weeks into their 12-week journey visiting new countries each week from the comfort of their care home.
One month in, they have visited France, England, Italy, and Greece, celebrating each country by organising various activities and events. Residents have taken part in language lessons, virtual tours of famous landmarks, enjoyed local music, and experienced each country’s culinary delights as prepared by the care home’s dining team.
In week one, residents and team members boarded the Gracewell of Bath cruiser for a trip across the channel to France. Here, they were treated to some French opulence, sampling fine French cheeses and enjoying an authentic wine tasting session put on by the team members.
For week two, Gracewell of Bath made it back to the UK just in time to celebrate St. Georges Day. Fortunate to be blessed with fantastic British summer weather, residents and team members marked the occasion in the beautiful gardens, enjoying some fantastic singing and songs performed by Naomi Willmott, Singer.
However, their visit back home was short but sweet, as they packed their bags yet again for another trip abroad, this time to Italy. With no trip to the country complete without its food, residents and team members got stuck into homemade pizza making, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Later into the week they were treated to an authentic demonstration of fresh pasta making showcased by Nick Sauter Head Chef
Most recently, the care home headed a short distance across the Mediterranean to Greece. Another fantastic week of activities included traditional Greek dancing performed by Yiannis Tsenkos a professional Greek dancer. Residents and team members relished this entertainment and experience, with some even tying up their dancing shoes and attempting a few moves.
Speaking of the campaign so far, resident at Gracewell of Bath, Pamela Mulholland said: “I loved the cheese and wine tasting in France. It reminded me of all the things I would do at home and when we could travel. French cheeses are certainly my favourite!”
May Woodward also a resident at the home noted her enjoyment of the weeks so far: “I loved the Greek dancing! It was lovely to see residents and team members having so much fun with it.”
The extensive travel itinerary has been launched as part of Gracewell Healthcare’s #NewDawnNewDay campaign to encourage those who may be considering moving into a care home to take the step with a sense of reassurance in this new chapter of their lives.
