Gracewell of Church Crookham is inviting residents, friends, family, and the local community to take a trip down memory lane at its new weekly barber shop experience.

Every Thursday the care home, on Bourley Road, will be transforming its salon into Memory Lane Barber, a local barber shop run by Louise Milliken, and will feature new signage, a barber’s pole, and a retro music player.

Guests will be able to step back in time and get a wide range of classic hair styles, along with any kind of cut requested. They will be treated to a special wet shave and throat razor cut using old favourite creams including Brut, Brylcreem, and Old Spice.

After the first session, residents and guests spoke warmly about the experience, describing how it took them back in time. 82 year-old resident Doug Burridge spoke about how the barber shop brought back memories of his wife who sadly passed away earlier this year, she was the only person who used to cut his hair. Having his hair cut while listening to his wife’s favourite song took him back to younger days.

Those who are interested in coming to future sessions should RSVP to Steve Wyllie, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Church Crookham, on either 01252 240181, or by emailing churchcrookham.haa@gracewell.co.uk.

Memory Lane Barber will be one part of Gracewell of Church Crookham’s mission to create a vibrant, dynamic environment in which residents are able to connect with past personalities and interests.

As well as its salon, the home’s impressive facilities include a stylish lounge in which residents can relax, a bright and airy bistro, a spacious patio, and beautiful garden.

Gracewell of Church Crookham offers high-quality, personalised care tailored to a range of individual needs, including nursing and dementia care.

Steven Wyllie, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Church Crookham, said:

“Our new barber shop experience on Thursdays will provide residents, friends, family, and members of the local community with the unique opportunity to go back in time and enjoy a classic haircut.

“The combination of retro music, classic hair styles, and old school design will really take people down memory lane, and offer them the chance to get the hair cut of their choice.

“At Gracewell of Church Crookham, we create an engaging environment in which residents can express their personalities and interests, and our Memory Lane Barber will be a key part of that.”
