How to Create a Top 20 Care Home - Gracewell of Adderbury

Ted Richardson, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Adderbury, shares his top tips on fostering a Top 20 care home.  |  April 11, 2018

We were delighted when recently named Gracewell of Adderbury in their top 20 care homes. The awards are based on the review scores given by residents and their families on the website, and highlight the most recommended care homes across each region of the UK. We wanted to share two key features of our home that make it so special and welcoming.

Ensuring high-quality care through collaboration

Fostering a sense of togetherness and team spirit plays a crucial role in our home’s success. As part of Gracewell of Adderbury’s ‘Whole Team Approach’, each and every one of our team members is committed to offering exceptional care to all residents, right the way through from nurses to team members working on reception. Our overriding concern is to ensure residents feel valued and respected, and able to make their families part of the home. We go the extra mile to meet and exceed the needs of residents and their families, tailoring our care to a range of individual needs through a personalised approach.

Our teamwork and cooperation have great benefits for both residents and team members. As well as resulting in high-quality care which drives a great boost in residents’ feeling of respect and empowerment, team members create a sense of unity among themselves. They always support one another and help in different areas whenever needed, and meet weekly to make sure they are collaborating as well as possible. This makes Gracewell of Adderbury a great and satisfying place to work.

A vibrant array of activities and events

In offering high-quality, personalised care, we put great emphasis on ensuring residents can lead an active, fulfilling lifestyle. At Gracewell of Adderbury, we hold regular events to promote healthy living and a sense of community, and to provide a dynamic environment in which residents can express their most beloved talents and interests. Our activities range from those with an arts and crafts focus to those centred on reading, and include a variety of special performances and events. For example, we are hosting a 1920s-themed first birthday party on 6th April, which will include swing music, an awards ceremony, and delicious food and drink.

Our dynamic home gives residents the chance to continue using a skill they have developed over many years, or pick up something new. While this vibrant setting has benefits for all residents, there are particular positives for residents living with dementia. Cognitive activity is enhanced by stimulating activities and events, which also help bring back memories of past celebrations and special occasions.

We were all delighted when Gracewell of Adderbury was included in’s top 20 care homes, as this was a great reward for all the hard work put in by all our team members. The award has only motivated us even more to continue to provide the highest standards of care, particularly as it has come from residents and their families, the people at the heart of everything we do. We will not be resting on our laurels after this milestone achievement – it is our firm intention to continue going from strength to strength.
