Bringing the family together for a delicious meal is a great way to create new memories and bond over old ones. And what better way to do so than around a platter of delicious, shareable foods? Consider making one – or all – of these recipes for your next family gathering.

1. Appetiser – Pull-Apart Pepperoni Garlic Knots
This pull-apart recipe courtesy of Serious Eats makes a great savoury treat that your guests can enjoy together.

  • 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 ounces pepperoni – sliced in 1/4-inch squares
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • 6 medium garlic cloves – minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 2 Tbsp. chives – minced
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound store-bough – or homemade – pizza dough
  • 1/4 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
  • Store bought – or homemade – pizza sauce for dipping
  • Flour for dusting

Using a large pan, heat butter over medium heat until melted. Add pepperoni and cook until crisp – this should take about 2 minutes. Add pepper flakes and minced garlic, stirring for about one minute. Stir in parsley and chives, and then transfer mixture to a large bowl. Stir in Parmesan cheese until slightly melted, then set aside.

Flour your working surface lightly, and then divide your dough into two pieces. Roll one piece into an 8-inch long, 4-inch wide shape. Repeat with the second dough ball. Cut 12 strips out of each dough slab.

Then, tie each strip into a knot and transfer to the pepperoni and garlic mixture. Toss until each knot is evenly coated. Transfer pieces to a 10-inch cast iron skillet and drizzle with a generous amount of olive oil. Cover the skillet with plastic and refrigerate to let the dough rise – this should take about four hours.

Once the time is up, heat your oven to 128C. Unwrap skillet, sprinkle with Pecorino Romano and place it on the middle rack to cook evenly for 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove from oven, brush with extra-virgin olive oil and sprinkle a light layer of Parmesan. Serve with warm pizza sauce for dipping!

2. Main Course – Barbecue Chicken Pizza
After finishing the pull-apart appetiser, share this main course from Food Network with your guests.

  • 1 tsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 pound prepared pizza dough
  • 1/3 cup and 2 Tbsp. barbecue sauce
  • 1 8-ounce chicken breast – boneless and skinless
  • 2/3 cup grated smoked gouda cheese
  • 2/3 cup grated park-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 small red onion – thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste

First, shape your pizza dough into a ball and place it into a large bowl brushed with olive oil. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside for about 30 minutes, preferably in a warm place. Place a pizza stone on the upper third rack of your oven and let it heat to 218C.

While you wait, lay out a sheet of parchment paper brushed with olive oil. Place your ball of dough on top and roll it out to a 10-inch round. Brush the top of the dough with olive oil, cover with a second piece of parchment and set aside for another 30 minutes to let the dough rise.

In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce and 1 tablespoon olive oil until fully combined. Season your chicken with salt and pepper, place it in a cooking dish and top with barbecue sauce mixture. Place chicken in the oven under the pizza stone and cook for about 20 minutes, or until cooked through. Let cool and then cut into 1/2-inch cubes.

Now it's time to uncover your dough and assemble the pizza! Evenly spread the remainder of your barbecue sauce over it, leaving a 3/4-inch border for crust. Place chicken, gouda, mozzarella and onion toppings as desired. Carefully slide pizza onto the hot stone and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden. Remove from oven, sprinkle with cilantro and enjoy!

3. Dessert – 7 Layer Dessert Dip
After your family has completed the first two courses, you'll have to treat them to dessert! This recipe from food blog Six Sisters' Stuff creates a delicious dip that's perfect for sharing.

  • 4 cups skim milk
  • 1 5-ounce box instant chocolate pudding
  • 1 5-ounce box instant vanilla pudding
  • 3 bananas – thinly sliced
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup sliced honey roasted almonds
  • 1 pound strawberries – thinly sliced
  • 8-ounces whipped topping

Begin by whisking two cups skim milk with the chocolate pudding in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix remaining skim milk with vanilla pudding mix. Set bowls aside in the refrigerator to set.

Once your chocolate and vanilla pudding mixtures have reached the perfect consistency, you're ready to assemble your dessert. Grab a 9x13-inch pan and layer your ingredients in the following order: chocolate pudding, sliced bananas, crushed pretzels, vanilla pudding, sliced almonds, sliced strawberries and whipped topping.

Place dessert in the refrigerator until your guests arrive. Serve this dip with an assortment of pretzels, wafers and crackers!
