Football Fan Doug Is Still On The Pitch After 40 Years Of Playing
With the World Cup in full swing, Gracewell of Church Crookham are honouring their very own resident football fanatic, Doug!
Doug, a resident at Gracewell of Church Crookham, has always loved football and has been an active member of his local five-a-side team for many years. Before retiring, Doug was honoured by his club with a trophy recognising his ‘40 years of sportsmanship’, having turned up week-in, week-out for over four decades.
Still a keen player, Doug recently joined his local walking football team. Walking football is a great alternative to football for those with reduced mobility. Doug’s skills as a goalkeeper were even showcased in a recent Barclays television advert – watch Doug in action here.
Now in his eighties, Doug is a much loved member of the Gracewell of Church Crookham home. His bedroom overlooks the local pitch and he loves to watch each team’s games from the comfort of his own room.
Doug initially wanted Germany to win, but after their shocking early exit he's just happy to see who wins.
However England does during this World Cup tournament, we know Doug will be cheering on the team all the way (when he’s not out on the pitch scoring goals himself of course!).
