Gracewell of Ascot hosted a drive-through visit event for residents and their families. The team at the care home carefully planned the visit so everyone involved could maintain a safe social distance and comply with government guidelines.

The team at Gracewell of Ascot have ensured all families have contacted their loved ones, using video calls, phones and email. However, this was the first time since March that the residents were able to see their families in person.

Residents were seated in shaded areas of the Gracewell of Ascot car park, as they enjoyed ice creams and drinks. In order to ensure everyone was safe, families stayed in their cars as they slowly paraded past the residents. Many families decorated their cars with messages of love, bunting and posters.

Katy Williams, daughter of resident Bob Cronk, said:

"A fantastic idea and a great thing to do, it’s meant so much to us and it’s been really nice. Well done to you all".

Sophie Baker, daughter of resident Janusz Bialynicki-Birula, said:

‘’This is a really lovely idea, thank you so much for doing this. It’s been very emotional but in a good way and it’s been wonderful to see my dad today".

Linda Johns, daughter of resident Ruby Daniels, said:

"It was a wonderful surprise to hear about this and we were delighted to be here – it’s a great idea. We’re really happy, thank you for all you are doing and we feel reassured that Ruby is okay."

Raina Jordan, General Manager at Gracewell of Ascot, said:

"We had a fantastic turnout for our drive-through today with one family member travelling nearly 100 miles to be briefly reunited with their loved one. The families had really done a wonderful job in decorating their cars with bunting and posters displaying messages of love. There were tears of joy as families and residents were able to speak to each other for the first time in weeks. It’s been absolutely amazing to see how a brief reunion can make people so happy."
