Gracewell of Maids Moreton on Church Street has joined Maids Moreton Conservation Group’s Heritage Day to mark the WWI anniversary this year.

To celebrate the Heritage Day, there was a ‘Roll of Honour Trail’ with a short walk around the village to explore where the local soldiers of WWI once lived. A number of family members at Gracewell of Maids Moreton’s attended and walked the trail to show their support.

The group then visited numerous plaques at various locations, which gave details of the life of each soldier and their involvement in the village. The day also included a ‘Graveyard Trail,’ with the group visiting the graves of soldiers who survived in the local church yard to pay their respects.

Gracewell of Maids Moreton donated cakes for a delicious afternoon tea and sweets for the children’s trail, as an opportunity for the community’s youth to find out more about the heritage of WWI in the area. Gracewell also lent display boards that explored stories of those who lost their lives, which residents also contributed to.

The Heritage Day was a roaring success and Gracewell of Maids Moreton received a personal thank-you from the event’s organisers for helping to make the day so successful. Maids Moreton Conservation Group had over 200 visitors at the church and raised over £340 to share between the British Legion and the local church.

The Maids Moreton Conservation Group is a local group which meets formally six times a year, to discuss listed buildings locally, historical local maps and archaeology. The Group is also working on the maintenance of Scott’s Lane, attempting to increase the diversity of wild flowers around the local footpaths.

Andrea Bullen, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Maids Moreton, said:

“It was an honour for all of us at Gracewell of Maids Moreton to support the wonderful work that Maids Moreton Conservation Group do and contribute to what was a fantastic event. We’re so pleased with how successful the day was and know that our residents greatly appreciated seeing their families get involved with commemorating our local heroes.

“We look forward to working with Maids Moreton Conservation Group in the future.”
