Gracewell of Weymouth’s Home Admissions Advisor, Esther Sheppard, has raised £700 for the Alzheimer’s Society after taking part in a Skydive on Saturday 21st September.
Esther was joined on the ground by family and friends and some very special guests – residents of Gracewell of Weymouth. Some residents, the Gracewell of Weymouth’s General Manager, Yaneke Davey, as well as Racheal and Claire from the activities team, joined the fun on Salisbury Air Field to support Esther with her brave and exciting stunt for charity.
Most of the Jumpers going up in the plane with Esther were jumping out at 10,000 ft however, Esther decided to do the highest jump on offer in the UK, launching herself out of the plane at 15,000 ft. Esther got to watch everyone else jump out the plane and was the last one to take the nerve wracking leap.
Esther decided to do a Skydive to give herself a challenge and to do something unexpected while also raising money for a charity very close to her heart.
Betty English, a resident at Gracewell of Weymouth, said:
“I can’t believe Esther is doing it, at least she has amazing weather for it, I wish her all the luck!”
Esther Sheppard, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Weymouth, said:
“Doing a Skydive is the most terrifying, challenging and exciting thing I have ever done. Having all the support from the families, residents and staff at Gracewell of Weymouth really meant a lot to me.
“I jumped to show my support for all the people that are effected by Alzheimer’s - whether that be a person living with Alzheimer’s or a family member caring for a loved one. I jumped for them, in the hope that by raising money like we did as a home we might one day find a cure.”
“We were all so proud of Esther, most of us couldn’t do what she is doing and we have been behind her 100% of the way. We are so lucky to have so many passionate and caring team member at Gracewell of Weymouth and I thank everyone who take time out to go the extra mile for our residents, their families and to raise so much money for charities that are so close to their hearts.”
